Sound of metal tiff. The Sound of Metal is definitely one of the top films this year and it has everything to do with the steak kar performances of the lead actor Riz Ahmed. With blond hair it's hard to even place him as a Pakistani playing the role. Ahmed is an intense actor and takes us into the world of a tormented drummer trying to come to terms with losing his hearing not long after overcoming addiction. This new battle takes him into an unfamiliar world where the sound design helps the audience feel what the protagonist must feel. This film selves into experimentation with the auditory experience of cinema. An absolute must-watch.

It`s like a remake of It's all Gone Pete Tong from 2004. A fantastic british movie about a DJ in Ibiza with a superb soundtrack. First view. Sound of metal clash. Sound of metal official trailer. Looks great. I have to admit, His voice goes beyond what Simon and Garfunkel did. I love Disturbed, but I love them even more because of how insane his voice is live! This is probably the craziest live thing i've seen in a very long time. They did what Johnny cash did. They made this song their own. Sound of metal actor.

He does have his shouting and screaming down, his voice and he knows how to use it. David actually was an administrator at a nursing home, the guy has a heart and is a very interesting individual. No idea waht he's doing now but the guy is genuine.

Riz Ahmed is one of those actors, you simply cannot take your eyes off. It's not solely because of his good looks. He's always intense and, most importantly, he always makes you care about the characters he's portraying. In this case, he portrays a rock drummer who is losing his hearing.
As with most of his roles, he more than did his homework. Ahmed moved to Brooklyn for a few months and learned to play drums, he also spent a lot time with people from the deaf community. He showed the same dedication for his Naz Khan role in 'The Night Of' he immersed himself in the character's background. Expect no less from this actor.
Having two partially deaf relatives, I could relate to this film. Especially one relative who refused to learn sign language, they would rather read lips. Thinking of my relatives initially denying their hearing loss, this film really hit home.
Why are people bringing up Riz being Pakistani? With every role, will he continue to be defined by his background? His character was named Ruben, it's assumed his character was Hispanic. Riz can play other nationalities and ethnic groups beyond his own South Asian background. He can certainly pass for Hispanic, especially in this film. When considering Riz for a role, directors and producers should think outside the box.
The ending was extremely effective, but not a surprise at all.
Another excellent performance from Riz Ahmed. A few more films like this and he will finally have earned his Oscar.
If this movie turns out to be good, I'm pretty sure I'll been crying a lot throughout the whole damn thing. I'm a 46 year old, South Asian descent woman who loves metal. I don't think barely any brown people owned up to liking metal anymore lol 😁🤘. Sound of metal oscar. With my brief exposure to Disturbed, I had no idea this man had such a phenomenal voice. I think and drama were definitely not his calling. those of the pitt have witnessed, I show more emotion while brewing my purple rain boxed wine. Yet from around the early fifties through the late nineties this man was in countless movies. Some of his more memorable roles would be The Great Escape, The Dirty Dozen, the Death Wish series, and the Magnificent Seven. Surely he was in many more movies worth mentioning however I'm only mentioning the ones I've seen. I'm not a fan of his acting range but for Drunken Master he's on my top ten shitty actors whom I love list. He's right up there with Rutger Hauer and Kurt Russell. A shame he passed away so early may he be remembered fondly for his roles that brought audiences to the theatre. More reviews to come soon. 06/30/03 For the Movie Pit and fans of Katharine Hepburn: Katharine Hepburn died today (6/29/03) at the age of 96. Hepburn provided me with many hours of entertainment. I have enjoyed her roles in at least five decades. But, I can hardly pick my favorite role. Neither could Hollywood. She was nominated for 12 Oscars and received a record four Best Actress awards. If you have not seen these, than I highly recommend the following: The Philadelphia Story (1940). Hepburn must have had an ear for great dialogue (I will allude to that later). She was already well known when TPS was released. She had done Stage Door, Bringing Up Baby and Holiday. But, who knew that TPS would be one of the most sophisticated films of all time. Due credit should go to co-stars Cary Grant and James Stewart. The African Queen (1951). I've seen TAQ four times. I'll wager movie-fan/director Steven Spielberg has seen it more than a dozen. TAQ is that influential; it's that good. Directed by the legendary John Huston and co-starring Humphrey Bogart in his best role, TAQ is Hollywood adventure at its finest. Summertime (1955). Hepburn usually worked with great talent. Summertime was directed by David Lean (Great Expectations, Lawrence of Arabia, The Bridge on the River Kwai). Summertime was shot on location in "Technicolor" Venice. There is an unspoiled quality to the picture that could never exist today. Hepburn plays a shy woman seeking romance (you get the idea). Summertime is a great looking movie with characters who want to behave differently because they are exposed to an exotic locale. Summertime has its flaws, but we'll never see Venice like this again. And, we'll never see Hepburn either. The Lion in Winter (1968). Peter O'Toole, Katharine Hepburn, Anthony Hopkins (back in 1968), Timothy Dalton ("James Bond" way back in 1968), Nigel Terry and John Castle round out an amazing cast with a screenplay that any writer would give his soul to have written. Darkly humorous and completely devoid of historical merit. On Golden Pond (1981). This was largely Henry Fonda's swan song. But, who else besides Hepburn could have portrayed the larger-than-life's soul-mate. If you can watch Hepburn's "knight in shining armor" speech without a lump in your throat than we need to check your pulse. I've left out a lot about Hepburn. She also made many popular movies with Spencer Tracy. Historically they had a long affair, but that's none of my business. Like I said, Hepburn entertained me for many hours. Tomorrow, I think I may drive a mile down the road and rent The Lion in Winter. That's one I haven't seen in a long time. -Jurassic Mark 06/25/03 It is I, Darth Buzz, back at the helm.
